The long-awaited Tokyo Marui Model 19 Gen 5 Green Gas Airsoft Pistol is finally here. This model is the latest version of the Model 19, after the success of the Model 19 Gen 3 and the previous Gen 4, where Tokyo Marui made some internal updates. This Gen 5 Model 17 is also updated both externally and internally much like the Model 17 Gen 5 that came out last year, and it incorporates all the pros of both previous generations with some more notable updates.
The Gen 5 boasts the ergonomics of both the Gen 3 and Gen 4; however, the grip no longer has finger grooves. To some, this may be a good change as the finger grooves on the previous generations may not fit all hands, but this new one definitely will, and it comes with 4 different-sized backstraps just so it could fit different hands better. The slide on the Gen 5 has front and back serrations, allowing for easier manipulation of the slide. A major updated feature is that the slide release is ambidextrous, which allows for lefties to operate this airsoft pistol just like how the right-handed would without having to power stroke the slide or do it awkwardly. Why wasn't this added before? We are not sure, but this is a refreshing change!
This is the second G-series optics-ready gas airsoft pistol from Tokyo Marui. It comes with a plate that allows you to attach a red dot optic to your GBB pistol. Due to the plastic nature of the slide, Tokyo Marui only recommends the Tokyo Marui Micro Pro Sight. The faux optics plate on the slide could be removed simply by pushing the tap located on the end plate and pulling it off, exposing the screw holes for the optics plate and the optic itself. Hop-up can be adjusted similarly to the Tokyo Marui Model 19 Gen 3 series or the Model 17 Gen 4 series by simply locking the slide back and accessing the Hop-up adjuster next to the chamber.
The gas magazine that comes with the Tokyo Marui Model 17 Gen 5 GBB pistol is a tad bit more realistic compared to previous versions as it has an orange follower, but the main update is that it has a 20% more air value compared to an older same sized magazine, this is because due to the optics ready nature of this pistol, Tokyo Marui enlarged both the nozzle and the gas volume to increase the felt recoil and to ensure the slide cycles properly even with an optic attached. Although this magazine is slightly redesigned, we have tried in the office that this magazine will lock and work with older generations, and the older magazines will also work with this pistol WITHOUT an attached optic. The Umarex Glock gas airsoft magazine will also work fine with this model.
Finally, the lanyard attached to the frame is removable, and this pistol will work with accessory attachments and holsters designed for the G19 series or Glock 19.
